My father...Dear Gina,

My name is Thelma Ruth Gower. My father was Elmer Biggs Gower. He was born in Ridgeley, West Virginia, in 1910 and died in Alexandria, Virginia, in March 1969. He was a lawyer before WWII; during WWII, he was in the "JAG" of the US Army. After the war, he moved to Germany, where he continued to do legal work for the US Government (criminal trail law, mostly), albeit as a private lawyer. In 1949, he married Thelma Alma Hunter (born 1915; died 1985), originally of Apollo, Pennslyvania. My brother(John Richard Gower,1953-1983) and I were born in what was then "West Germany". My father moved us back to the US in 1959. Later the same year, my sister (Susan Katherine Gower, 1959-unknown) was born (in Silver Springs, Maryland). Less than a year after that, he suffered a severe stoke that almost killed him. For the rest of his life (i. e., 1960-1969, while I was a teenager), he could not move any part of his body's right side. That didn't stop him from living life to the fullest though. He was a great father, a wonderful man and even though it's almost been 40 years since I last saw him, I still miss him very, very much.

I don't know a lot about "Uncle Karl" (Karl Kamens Gower) or "Aunt Mary" (Mary Wenonoah Gower), but I will try to help you, if you wish. Please email me at "thelma_r_gower@hotmail.com", if you want any further information.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1206976460952271672.post-66618446058477729172008-05-22T13:28:00.000-05:002008-05-22T13:28:00.000-05:00Hi Kim,I'd love to pick your brain! My maternal grandfather was Wilbert Newman (not Wilbur)"Pete" Gower. He married Bessie Irene Biggs although I do not know the date of the marriage. They had 4 children, Elmer Biggs Gower, Karl Kamens Gower, Wilbert Newman Gower, Jr. "Denny", and Mary Wenonoah Gower. Mary was my mother. Hers are the only dates of birth and death I have for certain. I wish I could fill you in on more but I will be happy to talk with you any time. I do have a MSN email so please reach me there. I don't want to leave too much personal information on this. I'm sure you'll understand.Kim Meissnerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15665669974592033012noreply@blogger.com
